Fernald Living History Project
Formerly the Fernald Living History Project, the newly formed
Fernald Community
Alliance is working to preserve the history of Fernald. This project
involves retired workers and community members from the Fernald area in an
effort to record and preserve the various perspectives that are a part of
the community's environmental history. The University of
Cincinnati's Center for
Health and Environmental
Communication Research and the Ohio EPA's Office of Federal
Facilities Oversight Fernald group have provided assistance on the
project.
Over 125 videotaped oral history interviews have been collected
since 1999 by Fluor Fernald and the University of Cincinnati. Many of
the interview transcripts are available here. In 2001,
Fluor Fernald produced a 60 minute video, "First Link: A Story of
Fernald" based on portions of these interviews.
This community volunteer group will continue to provide additional opportunities for interviews and the sharing of
journals and photographs that are a part of Fernald's history. Please look
for postings of these activities in community and DOE newsletters, in
local newspapers, and at www.fernaldcommunityalliance.org
which is currently under construction.
This web page is maintained by Ohio EPA's Office of Federal
Facilities Oversight Fernald
group. Please note this website will cease after summer
2007. For more information please visit www.fernaldcommunityalliance.org
which is currently under construction.
