Site Number: G05OH0007.
This is the portion of Rickenbacker ANGB that was transferred to the Rickenbacker Port Authority for development of the airfield for commercial and private use. The property contained several areas needing investigation and is the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineers to investigate and remediate.
One area of investigation is Lockbourne Landfill, which is located east of the Village of Lockbourne. Debris disposed of in the landfill ranged from munitions and aircraft parts to construction debris and lime sludge from the water treatment plant. Currently, a remedial investigation (RI) work plan is in the review and approval stage. The Army Corps is working towards a late spring start for the RI.
UST Soil Contamination - This project is currently completing an RI. There are seventeen areas of concern (AOCs) identified. Eleven of these have been proposed for no further action. The remaining AOCs will move forward to a remedial action under the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR). Extensive soil and ground water sampling has been conducted to determine areas of contamination.
51 Areas of Concern were identified by the Rickenbacker Port Authority for investigation. Twenty-three of these were eliminated as not needing sampling. Twenty-one were addressed in a site investigation (SI), five were underground storage tanks (USTs) addressed in another project and the last two are ordnance sites. Currently, Ohio EPA is waiting for the SI report to be delivered for review.
