Defense Construction Supply Center
(DCSC)

Site Number: G05OH0260

Defense Construction Supply Center is located in the city of Whitehall, Ohio. The installation is in an area primarily zoned for industrial and commercial development. There is a residential area for military personnel on site, as well as residential areas within close proximity to the facility. The installation occupies approximately 570 acres and is bordered to the north by the Conrail/B&O Railroad line, south by commercial development, east by residential property and west by Yearling Road.

The DCSC dates back to 1918, when the site was selected, constructed and named the Columbus Quartermaster Reserve Depot. During this time the 281.7 acre facility was used to facilitate the routing of equipment for overseas shipment. In 1942, an additional 294 acres were purchased which brought the total area to 575.7 acres. The mission of the plant was also expanded to include all seven U.S. Army technical services. Due to increased activity at the installation, expansions were made during both WWII and the Korean War. After 1963, the mission of DCSC was expanded to include providing supplies to all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Over the years there have been numerous missions with equally numerous processes at the installation. Many of these processes utilized potentially hazardous chemicals or generated potentially hazardous wastes. Therefore, there are three locations on the DCSC which are disposal areas which need to be monitored. Though continued monitoring of these areas is necessary, either remedial actions on these three areas are completed, or no action is necessary.
