Blue Ash ANGS
(Air National Guard Station)
Blue Ash Air National Guard Station is located approximately 15 miles northeast of the city of Cincinnati, in the city of Blue Ash, Hamilton County, Ohio. The Cincinnati-Blue Ash Airport is located about one half mile south of the Blue Ash ANGS on Pfeiffer Road. A residential area is located to the west of the station, immediately adjacent to the property line. To the north, light industry/commercial buildings exist. On the east side of the station, sparse residences are found.
Since November 1953, the 123rd AC&W Squadron has been located at Blue Ash with the exception of one year during the Berlin crisis when the unit was relocated to Germany. There are currently two other units located at Blue Ash ANGS, including a radar unit and another flight group.
A site investigation was completed at Blue Ash ANGS in August 1993, after a preliminary assessment indicated that past operations involved the use and disposal of materials and wastes which are now categorized as hazardous. These potential materials and wastes include: engine oil, sulfuric acid, ethylene glycol, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, paint thinner, brake fluid, grease, paint, carbon removing compound, and cutting fluid. The site investigation focused on two areas of concern at the installation, the leachfield and spill site. Based on the data collected during the SI, Ohio EPA approved decision document recommending no further action for these sites.
