Petroleum, Oil, and
Lubricants Area, Long-term Coal Storage Pile; Burial Site 1; Building 89 Coal
Storage Area
During 1996 and 1997, WPAFB upgraded the POL area, abandoning all below ground
fuel lines and replacing them with above ground lines. Other project
improvements have included storage tank improvements and berm upgrades around
the tanks. Due to these recent upgrades and evidence that the fuels are
degrading naturally, natural attenuation with long-term monitoring was selected
as the remedial action for this site. Semi-annual monitoring has demonstrated
that natural attenuation is decreasing the contaminate levels at this site.
Long-term monitoring is being addressed under the Basewide Monitoring Program.
Site investigations indicated remedial actions were not necessary for the other
sites within this OU.
